ENTRY CRITERIA

Applicants for financial assistance must be local residents within the Umgeni Municipality Dsitrict who are in need of treatment for a medical condition where all other avenues have failed (and due to financial constraints) cannot be rectified, (NO other financial assistance is available) within a reasonable period of time. Treatment should be in order to:

1. Preserve life

2. Improve employability

3. Improve mobility and relieve pain and suffering

4. Cope with an emergency until an appropriate solution can be found

The committe have the right to refuse any applicant and the amount of assistance is at the committees discretion. Reasons will be given to the referring doctor.

Proof by a qualified medical practitioner must be furnished as to the condition, its severity and urgency, as well as efforts which have been made to rectify the condition.

Financial restraints, bearing in mind the criteria of the provincial almoners, which change from time to time, construe financial needs.

Is other help being granted?

In an emergency situation a treating doctor and the matron on duty can certify the need and grant a temporary grant or loan, to be ratified by the committee within 24 hours and a permanent solution found.
